Need Hope

First Steps to New Life in Christ Jesus

Recognize that I have sinned against a holy God.
First, I must admit my spiritual need: “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). I have no excuse and I cannot seek to blame others or blame my circumstances for my sin, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). My sin separates me from God and destines me to eternity in a place called hell.

Believe in Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for me.
“For while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8), having “suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God” (I Peter 3:18). It should have been me on the Cross, but Jesus took my place. He paid the price for my sin and on the third day arose from grave, conquering sin and death. The Bibles says that if I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, I will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

Confess and Repent of my sins.
God commands me to confess and repent of my sins. “Repent” means “to change direction” – “to turn around.” The Bible tells us, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” (Acts 3:19). I must be willing to turn away from the things that displease God and walk in His light, obeying all that He has commanded.

Embrace Jesus as my Lord & Savior.
Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). It is essential that I come to Jesus as I am. I cannot “clean up my life” and become acceptable to God. Instead, I must receive Him and allow Him to do the “cleansing” work. The Bible tells me to “put-on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 13:14), which means I die to self and live for Him, allowing Him to guide my every thought, word, and action.
